Prayer is a form of religious practice that seeks to activate a volitional connection to some greater power in the universe through deliberate intentional practice. Prayer may be either individual or communal and take place in public or in private. It may involve the use of words, song, or complete silence. When language is used, prayer may take the form of a hymn, incantation, formal creedal statement, or a spontaneous utterance in the praying person. There are different forms of prayer such as petitionary prayer, prayers of supplication, thanksgiving, and worship/praise. Prayer may be directed towards a deity, spirit, deceased person, or lofty idea, for the purpose of worshiping, requesting guidance, requesting assistance, confessing sins or to express one's thoughts and emotions. Thus, people pray for many reasons such as personal benefit or for the sake of others.

We have discovered that everything is made of energy.  Energy is everywhere in all things including the air we breathe.  Energy makes up the emptiness of space. We are all connected by energy and we all exist in a field of energy. This field of energy that encompasses everything has been referred to as the aether, the akashic field, and most recently zero-point field.  In this field that connects us all there is no time and space and information from the past, present and even the flux of the future is recorded instantaneously.  That means since we are all connected through energy we can receive information and send out information that will be recorded in this field and could be accessed by all.  Most conscious minds cannot access the information, but this information is received by us all unconsciously and effect our unconscious actions.  

This field of energy is conscious, and animates the universe. This field of energy can be better described as spirit. The spirit of the universe is manifested within us and within all things seen and unseen including conscious sentient beings both seen and unseen.  We live in an interactive universe where this spirit is not only a part of us but interacts with us as well.  The spirit listens to our thoughts and our requests.  Prayer is a form of communication, where we can pray to our perception of God, or the universe.  We can pray to unseen spirits: the angels or other deities.  We can pray and communicate with deceased loved ones.  

Since we are all connected, prayers can have instantaneous effects.  Positive thoughts towards others has been be proven to have positive effects on others, whether it be a slower heart rate or slower breathing.   The field of energy that connects us all and a conscious sentiet universe makes prayer an effective form of communication with the divine.
