In North America and Europe, "scientific progress," the "space program," and "nuclear power" have all become dirty words.
     This began in the late 1960’s and 70’s when a large contingent of boomers, who are now entering retirement age, largely those with college degrees, decided to go green.  Al Gore is just a typical example of the vanguard of that generation.
